The Mangledwurzels are a three-piece Scrumpy & Western band based in Somerset celebrating the works of the Adge Cutler and The Wurzels. More than a tribute band, The Mangledwurzels play Wurzels songs, old and new, blended with self-penned original songs and pop standards 'Mangled' in true Wurzels tradition. Formed in early 2005, The Mangledwurzels are all experienced musicians who have graced a wide variety of stages and venues throughout the country. The band effortlessly convey their innate sense of fun and humour to their audiences both through the song lyrics and their performance, and can be guaranteed to satisfy any size of audience regardless of age, gender or musical preferences. Based in the West Country, with the majority of the band born and bred in Somerset, The Mangledwurzels are in the ideal position to produce a genuine West Country Scrumpy & Western sound.

The Mangledwurzels play over 100 gigs annually, including many high profile festivals and shows across the West Contry (and further afield). They have also performed as some more unusual venues such as Wilkins Cider Farm in the heart of Somerset, the Sedgemoor Cattle Auction Centre, the International Boules Festival in Wiltshire, and even appeared on ITV's prime time show "Britain's Best Dish", where they unsuccessfully tried to bribe the judges with gifts of scrumpy cider!

They signed to Loose Records (who had the band's heroes, the real Wurzels on their books in the 1990s) in 2008, and have released two albums on the label. 2009 also saw the band sign a sponsorship deal with Somerset-based Wyke Farms - the largest independant cheesmakers in the UK!

Get Orf My Land!

(LSECD93) is the debut album by The Mangledwurzels, remastered and re-issued with a bonus track on Loose Records.

The album was recorded live on the 25th November 2006 at the Charlton Inn in Shepton Mallet, and engineered by Will Angeloro of Handsome Llama studios in Frome. It was originally released on 9th February 2007 on the band's own Somersetmade record label (MWCD001). The original 19 track album has now been deleted and superceded by this remastered version with a bonus track released on the Loose Records label (LSECD93) released on 30th January 2009.

Wurz 'Ee II

(LSECD94) is The Mangledwurzels' second full album release. It was recorded and engineered by Will Angeloro at Handsome Llama studios in Frome, Somerset between July 2008 and May 2009, and released on the Loose Records label (LSECD93) on 24th July 2009.

Inspired by the legacy of Adge Cutler’s songs, the trio have put together a collection of their own compositions which they hope will stand up alongside the songs of the original 'Bard of Avonmouth' as a Scrumpy & Western album in its own right. Wurz ‘Ee II is a wholly studio-based album allowing the band the luxury of including much more instrumentation than you would expect to hear from them at a normal Mangledwurzels gig.

Guitarist, and composer of half of the album’s tracks, Seth Pitt explained: “We wanted to record an album which showcased our songs, so have taken advantage of the studio setting to do this. We’ve done most of the instrumentation ourselves; and drafted in friend and session musician Dozy Trowel to do the drumming and percussion which adds a new dimension to the recording.”

Jethro Tool, the band’s keyboard player and songwriter, was jubilant at the release of Wurz ‘Ee II: “It’s taken rather longer than we had hoped to record, now it’s complete we are all tremendously proud of the new album. There are fifteen songs on the album, and they are a cross-section of the Scrumpy & Western genre – a bit of folk, a bit of country, even a bit of punk! – and plenty of cider, local character, rural humour and charm. We like it – and hopefully so will our fans!”
